Week beginning 4th May

What are we learning this week?
English:
  • Phonic flashcard practise.  Our focus this week is 'a_e'
  • All about questions.  Can you remember what comes at the end of a questions?  Can you write a question mark?
  • Sharing the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'
  • If you were one of the Three Bears, what questions would you ask Goldilocks and discovered she was in your house?  E.g. 'Why did you sleep in my bed?'  'Why did you break my chair?'
  • Writing answers to the questions.  What might Goldilocks have said in reply?
  • Daily story time sharing the book 'The Hen Who Wouldn't Give Up'.  I wonder what will happen to Hilda the Hen this week?
Maths:
  • Daily flashbacks
  • Adding equal groups and recording this as repeated addition
  • Making 'arrays'
  • Doubling numbers

IPC:
  • Have you beans started to grow that we planted last week?
  • Different parts of a plant: seed, seedling, root, stem, leaves, flower, fruit, tendril, shoot, petal, stigma, stamen, pollen
  • Creating a picture to show the different parts of a plant.  Can you use resources you have at home to help you?  Cupcake cases make good flowers and string makes great roots!
  • Cutting up fruit to find some seeds.  Can you plant them and help them grow?
Special events this week:
  • It's V.E. day on Friday.  There is a V.E. Day folder of activities in your folder of work this week.  Feel free to use as many or as few of these as you wish.  You might like to have a look at them during some Enrichment time
  • Year 2 Google Class Meet: Monday 4th May at 1pm
