Wednesday 1st April

Task of the day:
We have Enrichment time on the timetable at the end of the day.  I'd love you to share with me what activity you choose to do.  You might want to start one from the Enrichment Activity sheet I shared with you at the start of the week.  I wonder if anyone is going to work towards earning a Blue Peter Badge?

Another busy day

It was wonderful to see many of the children at our Google Meet this afternoon.  They all looked so happy to see each other and I thought they all did really well communicating with their friends via video link.  Yet again I have been very impressed with all the hard work which has been going on today.  I have had many 'noun monsters' shared with me from our English lesson and am pleased the children have remembered a noun is a 'person', 'place' or a 'thing'.  I've also heard tales of measuring in Maths and even a game of basketball and a pillow fight!  Safe to say the children are certainly fitting as much as they can into each day!

Tuesday 31st March

Task of the day

It's going to be a very musical day today with singing this morning and music this afternoon.  I have shared a folder with all the children from Mrs Shevels for some singing this morning.

You might also enjoy clicking on the link below to sing one of our favourite Easter songs at school.  Do you remember it from last year when I sang it with you when you were in Reception?

A very busy Monday

From reading my many emails this evening I think we can definitely say the children have had a very busy but productive day.  It's wonderful that so many have been really enthusiastic to start their working week again.  I hope those of you who managed to watch the live Phonics lessons found them useful. We enjoyed taking part in these at school today.  They really are excellent daily sessions which support our phonics work in school.  Special congratulations to Evan today who has earned a Mathletics certificate.  Well done, Evan.  Here are a few photos from today.  Even Sienna's little sister has been busy working hard!

Enrichment Activities

There are three sessions in the timetable for Enrichment Activities.  Below is a selection of activities for you to enjoy.  These can be completed in any order.  Some will be ongoing activities whilst others are shorter but can be repeated.  Have fun and don't forget to send me lots of pictures of you completing the activities.

Year 1 Google Meet

I will be hosting a Year 1 Google meet at 3.00pm on Tuesday 31st March.  I will email you the invite just prior to the meeting.  I hope you will be able to join us so you can see all your friends.

Phonic sound of the week

Daily Live Phonics Lessons:

Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00am and again at 1.00pm
Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30am and again at 1.30pm

They are streamed on youtube but they are live so only available at the above times.  The link is:

I highly recommend these sessions as they provide excellent revision of phonics sounds taught in Year 1 and new sounds we will be learning over the coming weeks.

Common Exception Words

For your information, here are the Common Exception Words for Year 1 and Year 2.  When your child does some writing is it useful to have this to hand as all the Year 1 words should be spelled correctly.  The children should also be able to read these words confidently at sight.  Of course, they can move onto the Year 2 words when they are ready.

Monday 30th March

Maths Flashback
I will post a daily Maths Flashback for the children to complete. There are 4 short questions as well as a number to recognise in the top right hand corner.  This number is displayed as towers of 10 and individual cubes.  For example, 1 tower of 10 and 4 individual cubes would be the number 14.

Task of the day:
How many ways can you make the number 20?

Distance Learning Timetable

Please find below a streamlined timetable which prioritises key subjects such as English, mathematics, reading and IPC, while still providing opportunities for the children to participate in valuable co-curricular opportunities such as enrichment activities and music.  The planning I send to the children will mirror this timetable.  I hope you find it helpful.

Week Beginning 30th March 2020

What activities will we be doing this week?
English:
  • Learning all about nouns and identifying them in sentences.  You might want to click on the following link to learn a song to help you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMMZhAANKoM
  • Designing our own monster and writing sentences using nouns to describe them.  I wonder what you will call your monster?
  • Sorting nouns into 'person', 'place' or 'object/thing'
  • Planning and writing a story including each type of noun 'person', 'place' or 'thing'.  We will plan the story using a planning guide before writing it.  When planning we will think carefully about the beginning, middle and end of our story as well as the story setting
  • Spellings
  • Daily reading
  • Handwriting
Maths:
  • Starting our new unit of work all about 'length'
  • Comparing lengths and heights
  • Using 'non-standard units of measure' to measure different lengths and heights.  For example, how many paper clips long is the pencil
  • Estimating length and height
  • Measuring length using a ruler
  • Creating a 'length picture'
  • Mathletics
IPC:

  • Learning about the importance of exercise and healthy eating
  • Sorting food into different food groups and give examples of foods for each group
  • Designing our own healthy meal.  This could be completed creatively by making a collage using art materials
